This 10 EC course offers an introduction to the programming language Java, focusing on its syntax and language elements. Besides this, (JUnit) testing and application design are important aspects.

This course deals with more advanced Java topics such as JUnit testing, multithreading and lambdas and the Streams API, as well as OO oriented design principles and design patterns.

Minor project Application Design

In this project, the Application Design course is put in practice. Students work on real-world problems in bioinformatics. Central is the development of a Spring-based web application. Agile, Scrum, ticketing, use cases, user stories and logging are also introduced.

Data Analysis and Visualization using R

This course deals with basic R to start with, but focuses primarily on the packages ggplot2, tidyr and dplyr of the Tidyverse and designing and implementing multi-step workflows and visualization in the area of the Life Sciences with these packages.
